Paris

Paris is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. It offers so many things — food, fashion, culture, nature, etc. It is also a city that can break the bank very quickly. BUT that doesn’t have to be the case because there are plenty of ways to visit the city affordably. Below are some guidelines to help you estimate your daily travel costs.

In this Paris travel price guide, we’ve outlined the estimated travel expenses for food, accommodation, attractions, alcohol, and other things that you’ll experience when you visit The City of Light.

Paris Food Prices

A typical crepe stand

Paris is world-renowned for its cuisine… but it comes at a cost. Luckily, even cash-strapped travelers can still eat well on a budget. However, it’s important to do your research because there are a ton of subpar restaurants in Paris. If you’re not careful, you’ll spend a lot of money on a lot of bad meals.

Take a look at our guide to the Best Budget Restaurants in Paris to see how to eat cheaply in Paris.

Paris Budget Breakfast Prices: Free–€7

  • Many hostels will offer a free simple breakfast that normally consists of cereal, bread/croissant, and maybe milk, coffee, tea, or juice (some hostels will offer more and some less).
  • You can also find plenty of budget-friendly options at the bakery. Croissants and other baked goods start around €1. Coffee from a typical café will cost around €2. Hint: Drink your espresso at the bar and you’ll pay less.

Paris Budget Lunch Prices: €5-€15

  • Super budget travelers can make a super cheap lunch of bread, cheese, and fruit from any grocery store for a few Euros.
  • Cheap takeaway meals (like kebabs with fries) will cost about €5.
  • A ham and cheese crepe from a street vendor will cost about €4-€6.
  • A simple, yet filling and tasty, lunch from a local (i.e. non-touristy) restaurant will cost about €8-€13.

Paris Budget Dinner Prices: €10-€20

  • It isn’t too tough to find a good meal for about €15. Look for the plat du jour or a fixed price (prix fixe) menu for the best deal. Again, you’ll need to leave the touristy parts of the city to get the best prices.
  • A McDonald’s combo meal (burger, fries, and a drink) will cost €7-€9.

Paris Drinks and Alcohol Prices:

  • A pint of beer will cost anywhere from €3-€7.
  • A six-pack of beer from the store will cost €6-€8.
  • A decent glass of wine starts at €3.
  • A decent bottle of wine from the store will start around €5.

Paris Transportation Prices

Paris is a super walkable city so you’ll want to try walking as much as possible. You may find yourself only using public transportation once or twice. For this reason, we recommend purchasing a pack of 10 tickets and using them as needed. Note: The Métro (subway) and buses use the same ticket.

  • Single one-way ticket: €1.90
  • Pack of 10 one-way tickets: €14.90 (€1.37/each)
  • Unlimited Day Pass (Mobilis): €7.50
  • Paris Visite Pass
    • 1-Day: €12.00
    • 2-Day: €19.50
    • 3-Day: €26.65
    • 5-Day: €38.35
  • RER (train) ticket from CDG airport into the city: €10.30
  • Bus from CDG airport into the city: €12-€18
  • Taxi from CDG airport into the city: €40-€70

Paris Hostel, Hotel, & Rental Apartment Prices

Budget hotels are small, kinda junky, and still fairly expensive in Paris. You’ll have to drop some cash to get something nice. Hostels in Paris also aren’t that great — especially for how much they cost but there are a handful of solid hostels. Apartment rentals can be a very attractive option if you’re traveling with a group.

Paris Hostel Prices: €25-€45/Night

You should budget about €32/night per person for a decent hostel, although many hostels raise their prices on the weekend. Remember, these prices are for a bed in a shared dorm room. If you want a private room, expect to pay €50-€100. Check out the latest hostel prices at Hostelworld since prices are always fluctuating.

The Best Hostels in Paris

Here’s a list of the Best Hostels in Paris if you want more recommendations.

Paris Budget Hotel Prices: €70-€150/Night

A decent budget hotel near the city center will cost around €120/night. You can find cheaper hotels if you want to stay farther away from the center of the city or if you don’t mind staying in a super low-budget place.

Looking for a budget hotel? We suggest checking out Booking.com to see hotel prices for your dates since they’re always changing based on demand, time of year, etc.

Paris Rental Apartment Prices: €75-€170+/Night

Paris has more vacation rental apartments than any other city so you’ll find a wide range of options. These rentals can be a good option for large groups or travelers who want a little more space (and a kitchen). On the other hand, you may also have to deal with inconvenient check-in processes and things like extra cleaning fees and service charges (which makes short stays quite a bit more expensive). For short stays, we prefer hotels/hostels but rental apartments can be a nice option for longer stays. Airbnb is popular but here’s a list of Airbnb alternatives that could help you find cheaper/better options.
